My painting is based mostly on the natural world.
The process of painting and the materials I use are as important as the end result.
I work in oil on wooden panels and also watercolour on paper; I love the unpredictable nature of watercolour; it does its own thing and the colour can be incredibly intense. Colour matters hugely in my work.
Using oil paint on wooden panels allows for building up layers and also taking them off again, uncovering parts of previous layers which may or may not work with the image as a whole, in that case it’s all about bringing the disparate elements together making a unified work.
